On the banks of the river Arno, near the Ligurian Sea is the city of Pisa. Pisa's mild climate is due to its proximity to the sea and protection from the Appennini Mountains. A car rental is an excellent way to get around.
History
The main landmarks of Pisa are located in the Campo dei Miracoli (Field of Miracles) and include the Duomo, the Baptistery, and, of course, the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The Leaning Tower is the most recognized feature in Pisa and dates back over 8 centuries. The impressive Baptistry stands opposite the Tower; it was consecrated to Saint John the Baptist. The Duomo is the largest Romanesque church in Tuscany.
Recreation
If you are up for it, you can climb all of the Leaning Tower's 293 steps. A walk around Pisa can also be very enjoyable, as there is so much to see. The city is very compact, with many narrow streets and a great ambience.
Food and Drink
Bruno - A pleasant restaurant, with beamed ceilings and the look of a country inn, Bruno is just outside Pisa's old city walls, a short walk from the Duomo.
