Milan is the second largest city in Italy and its cultural achievement cannot be overlooked as the city now dazzles as the design and fashion center of the world. The financial heart of the country, Milan is home to the Italian stock exchange and most of the country's important corporations are headquartered here.
History
Milan is home to Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. The 14th century Duomo Cathedral, built in 1386, is second in size to Rome's St. Peter's Cathedral. War has ravaged much of Milan's historical sites, creating a more modern city than you would typically see in Italy.
Recreation
Sightseeing in Milan is relatively simple due to the fact that many of the attractions are within easy reach of each other. The Galleria Vitorrio Emanuele II, to the north of the lively Piazza del Duomo, is one of the world's most elegant shopping malls.
Food and Drink
Milan is an ethnically diverse city due to immigration in the eighties and nineties and therefore many ethnic restaurants are throughout the city. Japanese cuisine at Yuma to Brazilian cuisine at Porcao, you can find all kinds of different fare. Of course traditional Italian restaurants are available as well, including the elegant restaurant Savini.
